Tsumugi silk was the first thing I smelled when Umi Storm was finally in my hands. That same delicious scent I easily recognized from hosting other tsumugi blends. In hand, Umi Storm was thick and definitely had nice weight to it. Spreading out the wrap to get a better look at the design, I then realized it’s not as beastly as I initially thought it would be. In my mind I was expecting it to be similar to a Kokoro triblend, however I was pleasantly surprised that it seemed thinner overall once laid flat.
I’m usually more of a vibrant or rainbow color person when it comes to wraps, but Umi Storm is such a uniquely speckled grey that I instantly fell in love with it. Seeing as both sides looked the same, there is no wrong or right side, which makes wrapping with it even better. I really love the feathery design to Umi Storm, and the grey color gives a very elegant and calm vibe to the whole pattern. Umi Storm can be worn for formal and casual attire. From a flowy dress to plain leggings, this wrap will make you look and feel super stylish.
I tested Umi Storm on a nice breezy day in California. The weather was about 70 degrees and Umi Storm was perfect. The wrap qualities are truly amazing – it is perfect for toddlers because of how stretchy and textured it is. The texture on both sides gives Umi Storm an amazing amount of grip. At the same time, the cotton makes it still feel cushy and supportive. I feel like Umi Storm is a thicker wrap, therefore I was comfortable with knots that were half-tied; carries such as a DH TUB and kangaroo carry, with enough length left over for beautiful, flowing tails to admire.
Umi Storm has good grip in carries such as the CCCB, Tied Tibetan, RRRR, RR, and Knotless Tibetan. While don’t have a specific base size that I prefer, Umi storm is perfect in a size 5. I also think it would make a great shorty with a no sew ring sling, because of how much grip it gives. My shoulders never felt any dig or pull while carrying around my 18-month-old daughter (who weights 22lbs) around our neighborhood and the gardens. She never sagged and the carries I tested stayed secure and in place. In fact, she has recently become a leaner and seat popper, but she was absolutely no match for beautiful Umi Storm!
Umi Storm is the perfect wrap for those who are looking to keep a versatile silk wrap in their stash. Supportive of small babies up through toddlers, this wrap will grow with you and your child. Not only is it aesthetically a beautiful wrap, but the wrap qualities certainly do not disappoint.
